Derby Bach Choir 2011/2012 Season Added 15 November 2011 On November 19th join us in the Cathedral for Elgar’s beautiful ‘Music Makers’. This serenely dreamy setting of an atmospheric poem has a quality of wistful idealism tempered by ‘bursts of ‘joy’. Durufle’s ‘Requiem’ is powerful and moving, demonstrating his passionate faith and based on the cool restraint of the ‘Gregorian Chant’. An evening of contemplative & inspiring music for the soul.
After the joyful explosion of sound at last years concert we welcome you once more to Christmas is Coming with Derby Central Salvation Army Band & Ockbrook School Choir on December 3rd in the Cathedral. This annual family Christmas entertainment is fast becoming an exciting part of preparations for the festive season, as is our Christmas at Kedleston in Caesar's Hall, with carols, mulled wine and mince pies.
On March 24th 2012 we would like to welcome you to the first performance in English of J S Bach’s ‘St Mark Passion’. Derby Bach Choir and Queen’s Company have commissioned the first English translation of this work reconstructed by Simon Heighes from ‘Kings Music’. This Passion now contains large choral sections, intimate arias, atmospheric recitatives & beautiful chorales. Only a broad outline of Bach’s intention for the work exists although the libretto & important elements remained. Be among the first to hear this remarkable addition to our Bach repertoire.
Our summer extravaganza features Handel’s ‘Coronation Anthems’ and a Gala ‘Last night of the PROMS’. Join us to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee & the opening of the Olympic Games in London. Summer Opera Gala Added 28/06/2011 Derby Bach Choir follow the success of their amazing Roundhouse Festival concert with a Summer Gala Performance of Carmen at Derby Grammar School. Members of the choir & friends invite you to bring a picnic or take a glass of wine into the gardens
before you take your place for our Opera Gala.
Soloists will include Sharon Plummer (Carmen),Vincenzo Sozzo (Don Jose), Gillian von Fragstein (Micaela) and Morris Fisher (Escamillo)
The superb grounds are open from 6.00pm so come early & bring a picnic. Dress up & step out in style to enjoy an evening of sparkling music & wine in a beautiful setting.

Derby's First Choral Festival Added 17/01/11 Derby Bach Choir leads choirs from throughout the East Midlands to bring you a programme of superb, contrasting choral music. Your chance to enjoy the spectacular setting and acoustics of Derby’s newly restored ROUNDHOUSE. Come and listen to individual choirs and experience the amazing excitement of Walton’s Belshazzar’s Feast, a stunning, but rarely performed work for two choirs, with over 300 singers and an orchestra of 100 players including two brass bands.

Additional works include Richard Genee Italian Salad sung by The Derwent Singers and Grainger Shallow Brown by Derby Bach Choir. This is a chance in a lifetime and a first for Derby
The exciting and charismatic baritone soloist Mario Solimene, who last sang with Derby Bach Choir in Verdi’s Requiem in 2009, will join us from Magdeburg Opera in Germany and the choral works will be directed by our inspiring conductor Richard Roddis. Richard is an outstanding professional tenor, conductor & teacher, and has won the London Lieder Competition. He is a well known in the East Midlands and beyond, with Derby Bach Choir, The Derwent Singers, Sinfonia Chorale and the Richard Roddis Singers.
The Nottingham Symphony Orchestra, with their leader & conductor Derek Williams, is recognised as probably the finest amateur orchestra in the United Kingdom. With greatly augmented numbers for this performance we look forward to one of the most outstanding and enthralling musical events that the City of Derby has ever hosted.

Haydn's Creation & Christmas Treats Added 14/10/10 As the nights begin to draw in it’s time to look forward to the Derby Bach Choir Autumn & Christmas Season. As usual we have a number of concerts during the latter part of this year and I’m sure that at least one of these will tempt you out on a cold autumn or winter night.
We begin on Saturday 20th November with what promises to be a lively and joyful performance of Haydn’s Creation joined by soloists Nikki Kennedy, John Bowley, Stuart Young and The Heart of England Orchestra.
For the first of our Christmas concerts we are thrilled that we will be supported by the Central Derby Band of the Salvation Army on Wednesday 15 December in Derby Cathedral.
If this isn’t enough of a seasonal treat we will be concluding our season in the traditional manner with Carols at Kedleston Hall on Saturday 18th December.

Easter Concert Added 23/03/10 This week we have organised a charity performance of Stainer's Crucifixion at St Matthew's Church, Darlely Abbey. We have invited singers from across Derby to join us to sing this work in order to raise funds for the Haiti Appeal. The concert performance will be at 8pm on 27 March. For anyone interesting in singing this work with us and supporting the Haiti Appeal it is not too late to join us on Wednesday 24 March for a rehearsal. For more details, click here. |
Spring Concert Added 11/01/10 On March 13th 2010 we would like to welcome you to an evening of inspirational music including Haydn’s Te Deum Walton’s Coronation Te Deum, Poulenc’s beautiful Gloria & the increasingly popular Szymanoski Stabat Mater. The choir, led by their superb conductor Richard Roddis, will bring drama and intensity to these challenging works and our outstanding team of soloists include the magical voice of soprano Claire Seaton.
