"How long is the concert?"

The concert runs from 4:00 to 5:00 pm. Refreshments will be served from 3:30 pm, so you’re welcome to arrive early and enjoy something before the music begins.

"I don’t know much about classical music — will I still enjoy it?"

We think so! You don’t need to know anything about classical music to come along – and we’ve tried to make sure we’ve included some more well-known music in our programme so you never know, you might recognise something!

“Is there a dress code?”

No, there is no dress code. Smart casual is fine – just wear what you would be comfortable in for an evening meal or going to the theatre.

"Is there parking near the venue?"

There is on-road parking available near St John’s Church, on Mill Street, Agard Street and Bridge Street; please note there may be charges, see local signage for information. Nearby public car parks are Chapel Street and ParkSafe on Bold Lane, which are approximately 10 minutes’ walk away.

"Can I bring children?"

Yes – everyone is welcome. There are no age restrictions and children under 16 can attend free of charge, accompanied by an adult. Our concerts are lovely occasions to share with family and friends.

"How do I get my tickets?"

Meet The Choir

Derby Bach Choir has been part of the city’s musical life for over 60 years and is recognised
as one of the leading choirs in the East Midlands. Our singers rehearse each week to
continue our traditions of a high choral standard, and perform major works alongside
professional orchestras and soloists.

We take real pride in the quality of what we bring to the stage – and in keeping live choral
music thriving here in Derby.

What you’ll hear

From quiet reflection to sparkling celebration — discover three different expressions of musical joy.

Haydn
Little Organ Mass

Intimate, gentle and full of charm. A moment of contemplation at the heart of the programme.

For a listener discovering choral music, it offers a chance to hear how expressive a quieter passage can be.

Bach

Excerpts from Mass in B minor

Three powerful movements from Bach’s Mass in B minor offer a taste of one of his greatest choral works.

Listen as the choir’s voices weave together, revealing the music’s richness and expressive depth.

Mozart

Exsultate Jubilate

A soprano voice in sparkling flight. Caroline Essex takes the solo spotlight in Mozart’s exuberant Exsultate Jubilate.

Its youthful brilliance and dazzling vocal writing bring an operatic flair to this sacred programme — a chance to enjoy the agility, expression and sheer exhilaration of the soprano voice.

“I’d never been to a live classical music concert before. A friend invited me along, and I honestly didn’t expect to enjoy it so much. I absolutely loved it!”

Audience Says

“There’s something really special about sitting so close to the musicians and experiencing the music live. With so much entertainment feeling artificial and disposable these days, it was wonderful to enjoy something so genuine.”

“The music was absolutely beautiful. My husband and I both had goosebumps at times. We had such a lovely evening.”
